Incident report
On 2021-05-05 (Wednesday, May 5th. 2021) at 11:03 CET the number of requests to the Printix Cloud rose to 3 times the normal triggering PagerDuty alerts to our backend team. Subsequent analysis showed that update to Printix Client version 1.3.1035 (Windows) and 1.3.1032 (Mac) had exposed a bottleneck in the Printix Cloud ability to handle the resulting requests from the many restarting Printix Clients. The update of Printix Client was started at 10:50 CET.
Actions
- Improve performance of Cache service (PP-6625).
- Revisit configuration of readiness and liveness checks for services (PP-6631).
- Improve server resilience by putting in place additional throttling mechanism that allows only the amount of traffic the Printix Cloud can handle, especially in the case of Printix Client update scenarios. Throttling mechanism will be made in such a way that high priority is given to print related requests (PP-6632).
Friendly regards
The Printix Team
