Incident report
On 2022-05-09 (Monday, May 9th. 2022) at 14:23 PM CET we got the first PagerDuty alert indicating the system was not working as expected. At 14:35 PM CET we got the first support request concerning this. It was established that one of the nodes in our Cassandra database cluster was slow to respond. A restart was attempted but did not succeed. Due to queued up requests we had to temporarily increase resilience timeout for Cassandra in Kubernetes, and then the restart succeeded.
Actions

- During the now completed scheduled maintenance on 2022-05-11 the database (MongoDB) that deals with tenant data has now been moved to its own cluster. This is done to allow faster performance and speedier recovery/restart. Should it become necessary to further scale the system, we can separate and move other MongoDB databases to their own clusters.
- Planned scheduled maintenance on 2022-05-14 to allow faster performance and speedier recovery/restart the third Cassandra database cluster node will be moved to the same rack as the other two Cassandra database cluster nodes.
- We are investigating a possible future use of an externally hosted Cassandra service.
Friendly regards
The Printix Team
